Agro Chemicals
Agro Chemicals refers to the broad range of pesticides, insecticides, herbicides, and fungicides that also include synthetic fertilizers and concentrated stores of raw animal manure. AgroChemicals are used to get higher yields, better varieties, and more targeted pest management control. The products and services are designed to solve pressing crop production problems for our customers, boosting agriculture productivity to maximum sustainable levels to keep pace with the growing needs of the world's rapidly expanding population and decreasing arable farmland.
Agro Chemicals are a vital part of modern farming, and are used for the following purposes :
Crop Protection
• Insecticide, herbicide, fungicide, and fumigant technologies to ensure sustainable farming.
Crop Solutions
• Maximise productivity and keep fields free of weeds and flowers.
Vegetation Management
• Areas that must be kept free of weeds and brush and cannot be tackled by mowers or chainsaws.
Range and Pasture
• Control poisonous, noxious, invasive and other hard to control brush and
weeds.
Pest Management
• control insect pests that cause millions of dollars in damage to buildings and farm structures.
Post Harvest Protection
• Used by growers, packers, shippers, exporters, and importers to deliver goods without losses en-route.
ITL entered the Agro Chemicals sector on the back of an existing large fertilizer distribution chain. We started by simply providing proven European products for wholesale in our strongest African markets. In 2004 after carrying out in depth market studies, we saw that Western products were increasingly being replaced by licensed, Eastern manufacturers. ITL entered into agreements with major Eastern producers and started distributing branded products catering to the individual markets. This was a major shift from selling generic products to tailor made products to suit the terrain, crop and pests of the region.
Below you will find our list of Agro Chemicals currently being distributed within Africa :
Herbicides:
• Atrazine 80 (pack to be decided 1-20kg): Atrazine is a herbicide that selectivity controls broadleaf (dicot) weeds. Suitable for corn crops.
• Pendimethalin is used in pre-emergence and postemergence applications to control annual grasses and certain broadleaf weeds. Suitable for corn crops.
• Atrazine is used to stop pre and post-emergence broadleaf and grassy weeds in major crops. Nicosulfuron is used for control of weeds such as Johnsongrass, Quackgrass, Foxtails, Shattercane, Panicums, Barnyardgrass, Sandbur, Pigweed, Morningglory and others. Crops include field corn.
• 2, 4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) is a common systemic used in the control of broadleaf weeds. Crops include Rice and Corn.
• Glyphosate (N-(phosphonomethyl)glycine) is a broad-spectrum product used to kill weeds, especially annual broadleaf weeds and grasses. Suitable for all crops.
• Paraquat is the trade name for N,N′-dimethyl-4,4′-bipyridinium dichloride, one of the most widely used herbicides in the world. Paraquat, is quick-acting and non-selective, killing green plant tissue on contact. Suitable for all crops.
Haloxyfop is a post-emergence selective herbicide. Control annual and perennial grasses. Used for cotton and onion crops.
• Oxyfluorfen is a diphenyl-ether herbicide used for broad spectrum pre and post-emergent control of annual broadleaf and grassy weeds in a variety of tree fruit, nut, vine, and field crops.
Insecticides:
• Lambda Cyhalothrin is a pyrethroid insecticide. Acetamiprid is systemic and intended to control sucking insects. Suitable for leafy vegetables, citrus fruits, pome fruits, cotton and cocoa.
• Chlorpyrifos (name: O,O-diethyl O-3,5,6-trichloropyridin-2-yl phosphorothioate) is a crystalline organophosphosphate that inhibits acetylcholinesterase and is used to control insect pests. Suitable for use on cotton, corn and fruit trees. Cypermethrin is a synthetic pyrethroid used as an insecticide in large-scale commercial agricultural applications.
• Emamectin is widely used in controlling lepidopterous pests (insects that as larvae are caterpillars and as adults have four broad wings including butterflies, moths, and skippers) in agricultural products.
• Imidacloprid: The most widely used applications for imidacloprid are pest control products used in structures, turf pest control, grape growing, and head and leaf lettuce growing. Other widespread crop uses are rice, grains/cereals including corn (maize), potatoes, vegetables, sugar beets, fruit, cotton, and hops. Target insects include sucking insects (e.g., aphids, whiteflies, leafhoppers and planthoppers, thrips, scales, mealybugs, bugs, psyllids, and phylloxera), beetles (e.g., longhorn beetles, leaf beetles, Colorado potato beetles, rice water-weevils, wireworms, grubs, and flea beetles), and others (e.g., leafminers, some diptera, termites, locusts, and fleas).
Fungicides:
• Metalaxyl: For control of various diseases in many crops, fruit and ornamentals. Protectant fungicide. Metalaxyl is a systemic fungicide used as a foliar spray to control downy mildews. Appropriate for use on cotton, potatoes, and cocoa.
• Maneb WP: A wetable powder garden fungicidet that controls Blight, Anthracnose, Leaf Spot, and other diseases. For use on vegetables.
• Difenoconazole: Triazole. Systemic with preventative and curative action. Disrupts membrane function. Suitable for use on vegetables, rice, banana.
Plant growth regulator:
• Ethephon: Upon metabolism by the plant, it is converted into ethylene, a potent regulator of plant growth and maturity. It is often used on wheat, coffee, tobacco, cotton, and rice in order to help the plant's fruit reach maturity more quickly.
